What is TESTOPEL?
Sleep & Wellness Medical Associates uses TESTOPEL pellets, the only FDA-Approved method for normalizing testosterone levels in men. TESTOPEL pellets are designed to be placed under the skin, and are generally inserted on one side of the patient’s hip. The pellets, which are approximately the size of a Tic-Tac each, begin to dissolve not long after insertion under the skin.
Is TESTOPEL bio-identical?
Yes. TESTOPEL is a bio-identical, meaning it is exactly the same as what the human body creates naturally.
How long does the insertion procedure take?
The entire TESTOPEL insertion procedure is generally very quick, done right in our office, and usually taking no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete.
What can I expect after my TESTOPEL placement?
You can return to work immediately. It is advisable not to swim, use a hot tub or lift heavy weights for a few days after TESTOPEL is placed, but you may otherwise resume normal activity. You may experience soreness and/or bruising at the site. Please follow your doctor’s instructions.
Will I be in any pain during or following the procedure?
The insertion site on your body will be numbed for the procedure. You may experience mild to moderate soreness for a few days once the anesthetic wears off. For most, over the counter pain relievers such as Tylenol, Aspirin, or Ibuprofen work to reduce the soreness.
How long does TESTOPEL take to work? How long does it last?
Once the pellets begin dissolving, they will take about 4 weeks to reach full effectiveness. Results will vary slightly from person to person. For long term treatment of low testosterone, the procedure will need to be repeated between once every 3 to 6 months.
Are there any patients that should NOT receive TESTOPEL?
Yes, you should not receive any testosterone replacement therapy if you’ve ever had prostate or breast cancer. You should not receive TESTOPEL if you’ve ever experienced an allergic reaction to it. Please see the Warnings and Contraindications sections of the complete Prescribing Information accompanying the Patient Information brochure.
