Acne and Acne Scar Treatment

While the severity may vary from person to person, everyone experiences acne and scarring from persistent acne during puberty and later in life. While there are many causes for this, such as hormone changes, diet, and genetics, there are also plenty of solutions offered at Sleep and Wellness.

Potenza is an improvement to RF microneedling. RF microneedling couples pulsing energy waves that heat the skin with the small punctures in the skin characteristic of regular microneedling treatments. The punctures in the skin stimulate the body’s natural healing, which in turn stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin. The energy waves, which are administered through the needles, heat the dermis, which stimulates collagen production and tightens the tissue, further contributing to smoother and fresh skin. Potenza improves on this by having multiple options that can tackle a wider variety of skin problems. It has four different options: monopolar or bipolar, as well as 1 or 2 MHz. The different frequencies mean that the intensity of the energy waves can differ for different skin types. The monopolar mode works over a large area of skin and can reach more superficial areas of the skin (revitalizes the skin), while the bipolar mode is more concentrated and treats deeper skin layers (skin tightening and more aggressive treatments). As can be expected, bipolar mode has a slightly longer downtime than monopolar mode. Thus, between these settings, virtually any type of skin rejuvenation for any skin type can be achieved.

Picosure is the best laser treatment for removing acne scarring. While most laser treatments use exclusively heat to remove scars and pigments, Picosure uses pulsating energy to lessen the heat used and thus minimize damage to the skin during use, making it a safer option to conventional laser treatment. On top of that, Picosure is more accurate and effective in fixing scarred areas than other options. Another great aspect of Picosure is that it works on all skin types and any cause of pigment, so anyone can come in to get scars treated.

ICON laser treatment is a great non-invasive option for rejuvenating the skin. The laser works by shooting energy into the outer two layers of the skin (epidermis and dermis), stimulating the skin’s natural healing mechanisms which makes fresh skin tissue that looks younger than ever. Specifically, the 1540 fractional laser improves the elasticity of the skin by stimulating the body’s production of collagen and elastin, which makes smoother skin by eliminating irregularities in the skin such as lines and scars.

There are also plenty of topical products that can tackle acne problems and improve one’s general skin condition. Retinoids are lotions or creams that are derived from Vitamin A. These slow keratinization of the skin (acne is caused by hyperkeratinization). Topical antibiotics such as erythromycin help with acne and raised scars by reducing inflammation and the formation of comedones. Benzoyl peroxide is another chemical important in skin care that attacks acne by killing bacteria and shedding dead skin cells and excess oil in pores. It’s also important to note that other skin care treatments that revitalize the skin can also have a positive effect on persistent acne, even though they may not be targeted at acne.
