All About Acne

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions that can affect people for years. It will occur when the pores become clogged with an overabundance of dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria. This is what causes the majority of whiteheads, blackheads, and in some cases, cysts to form. It most commonly occurs on the face, shoulders, back, & chest, and can leave scarring in affected areas. There are a number of treatment options all that have been proven to be helpful with acne.

➢ Medical Treatments :

Acne treatment includes diet & lifestyle changes as well as prescription topical and oral

medications.

Diet and Lifestyle Changes:
- Eating more fruits and vegetables
- Reduce processed food, fried foods, sugary beverages, and white bread
- Getting the recommended amount of sleep
- Try your best to be aware of your stressors and the best ways to manage them

If you notice that these changes aren’t completely fixing the problem it may be time to see your Aesthetician. During your first appointment you’ll have a consultation, where they will assess your skin thoroughly, and suggest a treatment plan based on your skin type. There are various acne treatments to accommodate all skin types and budgets.

Topical Treatments: - Vitamin A
- Antibiotics
- Salicylic acid

Oral Medications:
- Antibiotics
- Oral contraceptives
- Anti-androgen agents - Isotretinoin

➢  Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Acne Treatment :

IPL technology involves the application of a non-laser broadband, filtered flash lamp source directed to the skin. There is little to no downtime with IPL treatment of acne lesions, and patients typically experience minimal to no discomfort. Significant improvement in the appearance of the skin is usually observed after laser the first treatment, but 5-6 may be required to achieve desired results.

With acne fighting ingredients such as Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Kojic Acid, Hydroquinone, and Citric Acid. Chemical Peels help to promote an even and clear complexion, allwhile making sure no new breakouts occur. The Hydroquinone and Kojic Acid help reduce acne scarring and prevention of new scars. While the other ingredients make sure to eliminate acne by controlling sebum production, accelerating cell turnover and reducing acne bacteria from spreading. You can expect mild to moderate peeling and or flaking for about 5 days with very minimal discomfort during the procedure.
