Science of the Skin
Let’s back up for a second. Fine lines and wrinkles are common with age, but to better understand how Potenza helps, we need to go a bit deeper than that. With age, the density of elastin and collagen in the skin decrease. Collagen makes up most of a person’s skin, and thus is vital as a structural protein not only there, but also in muscles and bones. Elastin, as it’s named, is responsible for the skin’s elasticity. When we’re young, we can furrow our brow, or smile, and when we stop, our face goes back to its normal position. It's the effect of these two proteins that allows this snap-back property of the skin. The body produces less and less of these proteins with age, however, so the snap-back effect goes away and the grooves from smiling and raising eyebrows don’t go away anymore. While this decrease is natural with age, other factors such as smoking and sun damage also speed up this ‘aging’ of the skin.
How Does it Work?
The Potenza RF microneedling treatment uses ultrafine needles and heat to penetrate the top layer of the skin and trigger the body’s natural healing process to regenerate new collagen and elastin. Unlike other skin revitalization treatments, these treatments can be performed on all skin types, anywhere on the body, and anytime of the year.
The high-level of customization is due to the use of both monopolar and bipolar modes in addition to multiple needle options. While monopolar RF delivers energy in a more generalized, less intense fashion to deeper tissues, bipolar RF delivers more concentrated treatments to the skin. Potenza provides the option of monopolar or bipolar mode (or a combination of both modes) which allows this technology to be suited to any skin type.
How is Potenza Different from Other Treatments?
Potenza is an improvement to RF microneedling. RF microneedling couples pulsing energy waves that heat the skin with the small punctures in the skin characteristic of regular microneedling treatments. The punctures in the skin stimulate the body’s natural healing, which in turn stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin. The energy waves, which are administered through the needles, heat the dermis, which stimulates collagen production and tightens the tissue, further contributing to youthful skin.
What makes Potenza different?
It is completely customizable. It has four different options: monopolar or bipolar, as well as 1 or 2 MHz. The different frequencies mean that the intensity of the energy waves can differ for different skin types. The monopolar mode works over a large area of skin and can reach more superficial areas of the skin (revitalizes the skin), while the bipolar mode is more concentrated and treats deeper skin layers (skin tightening and more aggressive treatments). As can be expected, bipolar mode has a slightly longer downtime than monopolar mode. Thus, between these settings, virtually any type of skin rejuvenation for any skin type can be achieved.
Because of the versatility that Potenza offers, fine lines anywhere on the body and for any skin type can be handled. However, since Potenza doesn’t directly make lines disappear, but instead stimulates the body to create younger skin, results take time to show up (usually ~12 weeks after treatment will optimal results be seen). The average downtime for RF microneedling is about 5 days.
Is this Treatment Right for Me?
The Potenza RF microneedling treatment can treat a wide variety of skin concerns on the face and body. Potenza treats all skin types, anywhere on the body, anytime of the year.
When Will I See Results?
The elastin and collagen building typically takes place 4-6 weeks after treatment, with optimal results usually seen at 12 weeks after the last treatment. The number of passes and penetration to the skin will affect the results seen.
How Long is the Treatment?
Treatment times will vary with each patient, area of body being treated, penetration depth, and number of passes. However, most Potenza treatments are performed within 1 hour.
