PicoSure Q & A

What is PicoSure?

PicoSure is a laser treatment system by Cynosure. The treatment uses Q-Switched laser technology, or a laser that emits rapid, powerful beams of laser energy, to treat your skin with minimal side effects.

Each pulse of laser energy from PicoSure breaks apart pigment within your skin and causes it to disperse. After treatment, your body absorbs the smaller pigment particles over the course of 4-8 weeks.

PicoSure is great for unwanted tattoos, but the pigment-targeting laser can also treat various natural pigmented lesions on your body. During your consultation at Sleep and Wellness Medical Associates, your provider assesses the features you’d like to treat and creates your treatment plan.

What can PicoSure treat?

PicoSure’s laser technology can treat several different skin features. While it specializes in breaking apart pigments within your skin, it can also treat some textural issues. You can choose to target:

Pigmented lesions

PicoSure can treat sun spots and other pigmented lesions. These often come from too much sun exposure over the years and can make it look like your skin tone is uneven.

Unwanted tattoos

PicoSure can remove dark, deep, and even colorful tattoos of any size. With each treatment, your tattoo gets lighter and less noticeable until it disappears entirely.

Textural issues

With PicoSure, you may also see improvements in textural issues like acne scars, other small scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. The heat from the PicoSure laser aids in collagen and elastin production to make your skin firmer, tighter, and stronger.

How many PicoSure treatments will I need?

The number of PicoSure treatments you’ll need depends on the size and number of tattoos and lesions you’re targeting with the treatment.

If you’re using PicoSure to remove a tattoo, your provider must assess several of its features before predicting how many treatments you’ll need. These include:

  • The tattoo’s size
  • The type of ink
  • The depth of the ink
  • The colors in the tattoo
  • The tattoo’s location on your body
  • Certain lifestyle factors and habits

PicoSure can even treat old tattoos that you’ve already attempted to remove with less effective methods or devices. Even if it seems like your tattoo is there to stay, PicoSure can remove it successfully and with minimal discomfort.

You don’t have to accept unwanted tattoos, pigmented lesions, or acne scars as permanent parts of your skin. Book your consultation for PicoSure laser treatments by phone or online at Sleep and Wellness Medical Associates today.
